The 7th edition of the Ghana Football Awards, set for June 14, 2025, at the renowned Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre is expected to be a spectacular celebration of Ghanaian football brilliance.
The awards honor the exceptional domestic and international achievements of Ghanaian players, coaches, and administrators and are organised by Football Impact Africa in partnership with AE Media. One of the most eagerly awaited categories is Ghana Footballer of the Year, which honours the country's best male football player internationally. Three Black Stars players, Antoine Semenyo, Thomas Partey, and Inaki Williams, have each received nominations for the coveted award this year. They each offer a special combination of skill, impact, and consistency.
Antoine Semenyo: The Rising Star
Antoine Semenyo, the Bournemouth forward, has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents during the 2024/25 season. The 24-year-old has taken his game to new heights, scoring a personal-best 11 goals across 37 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries. His dynamic attacking play, technical improvement, and ability to perform in one of the world’s toughest leagues have made him a standout. Semenyo’s contributions weren’t limited to his club; he also chipped in with a goal for the Black Stars during the 2025 World Cup qualifiers against Chad, cementing his role as a reliable option for the national team. His breakthrough campaign and consistent threat in the Premier League make him a strong contender for the Footballer of the Year title.
Thomas Partey: The Midfield Maestro
Arsenal’s Thomas Partey has long been a cornerstone of both club and country, and his 2024/25 season has only solidified his reputation. After battling injury-hit campaigns in previous years, the 30-year-old midfielder returned to top form, playing a pivotal role in Arsenal’s run to the UEFA Champions League semifinals—their first in over a decade. His commanding performances, particularly against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, showcased his defensive grit and tactical intelligence. For Ghana, Partey’s leadership shone through with two-headed goals in a 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Madagascar in 2025. Despite uncertainty surrounding his Arsenal contract, which expires in June 2025, Partey’s consistent excellence and big-stage performances position him as a frontrunner for the award. We will become the 1st player to win the category for the third time.
Inaki Williams: The La Liga Trailblazer
Inaki Williams, the Athletic Bilbao forward, brings a wealth of experience and flair to the nominee list. The 30-year-old Ghanaian-Spanish striker has been a consistent performer in La Liga, earning the 2025 La Liga African Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year. Williams played more minutes than any other Athletic Club player this season, contributing 14 goals and assists, which were instrumental in securing Champions League qualification for his club. His blistering pace and goal-scoring ability have made him a fan favourite and a key figure for both club and country. Williams’ nomination reflects his enduring impact in one of Europe’s top leagues, making him a formidable candidate for the top prize.
The Selection Process
The Ghana Footballer of the Year award is determined by a robust voting system involving an electoral college of journalists, coaches, and captains from Ghana’s top-flight clubs (Club 100), alongside public votes for the goal of the season. The nominees were announced on June 2, 2025, generating excitement across social media, with posts on X praising the trio’s performances and sparking debates about who will claim the crown.
A Night of Celebration
The 7th Ghana Football Awards will not only honour the Footballer of the Year but also recognise achievements in categories such as Women’s Footballer of the Year, Home-Based Footballer of the Year, and Best African Footballer of the Year, with nominees like Mohammed Salah, Achraf Hakimi, and Serhou Guirassy vying for the latter. The event, set to be broadcast live on Joy Prime TV, will bring together players, coaches, media, and fans to celebrate Ghana’s vibrant footballing talent.
Who Will Win?
The race for the 2025 Ghana Footballer of the Year is shaping up to be fiercely competitive. Thomas Partey’s leadership and big-stage performances give him an edge, but Antoine Semenyo’s breakout season and Inaki Williams’ consistent brilliance in La Liga make this a three-way battle. As fans await the June 14 gala, the question remains: Will Partey’s midfield mastery, Semenyo’s dynamic rise, or Williams’ La Liga exploits earn the prestigious crown? One thing is certain—Ghana’s footballing pride will shine brightly on this memorable night.
